Introducing Asian Influence to your Interiors!

Is spring almost here? As we all hope that day light savings time is an indication of warm days to come, I started to think about the fresh, organic and calming elements of Asian interior design. Feng shui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment and used quite a bit in interior decorating.  You do not need to do a drastic Feng Shui design of your home to accomplish such decorating benefits. Here the designers introduce the Asian influence through wallpapers, ceilings finishes, beds and fabrics to make any visitor feel they have entered a space in Asia.   My client lived in Asia for many years and upon their move back to the US, wanted to recreate the organic and natural atmosphere of this far away land they were leaving. In this kitchen, the most prominent Asian design can be found in the woven wall paper that surrounds the white washed oak cabinets and appliances. Additionally, the handmade Japanese paper chandelier and various pieces brought back from Asia by the homeowners puts the finishes touches to the Asian surroundings. I envisioned the homeowners cooking an authentic Asian meal in this kitchen every night and reminiscing on their days in Asia.   As you can see, there are multiple ways to incorporate Asian influence in your home! It can be established with traditional colors, patterns, and furniture. Hopefully, these have inspired you to being bring Asian influences to you home. Combat the Grey of Winter with Colorful Interior Design!

We are in the midst of winter here in the northeast and the only color schemes we are seeing are grey and white. Why not add pops of color to your interior design to combat this frosty view. There are so many beautiful ways to add color to your decorating, why let the winter chills dampen your design? You can introduce color through accessories, walls finishes, and furnishings. Here is an example of how I added color to brightened and warm this interior space. Bedrooms are usually the easiest place to start adding bold colors. It is contained and usually reflects the style of the occupant. In this space, one bright electrifying pink is used on the walls and ceilings, while earthy browns and creams warm the overall look. This creates a cohesive and bold feel while the earthy tones of the furnishings grounds and add warmth to this gallant look. It goes to show that creating a colorful space does not require the use of many colors but one that will wow your senses at first glance! Bringing different colors into a space adds boldness and personality to the design and decoration of your space. For more interior design and decorating ideas, feel free to visit our website here. A design is not complete without the finishing touches of accent pieces. By including these pieces in your home, you express your own flair, showing visitors a glimpse of your character within your space! Here are some ideas of items that can be used to bring out your inner self in your home. Foyers are the ultimate place to style with your favorite accents and accessories, because this is the first and last thing your guest will see as they are entering and exiting your home. At this home in Sasco Hill in Fairfield, Connecticut, I designed a Foyer that gives the opportunity for accent pieces such as the blue globes, and silver metallic vases that are completed with a stunning gold and silver mirror. These items express elegance in the simplest ways! Adding accent pieces to a room is one of my favorite parts when completing the design and decoration of a space. It is really when the room come to life with color and elegance, while also displaying the personality of the homeowner!  I hope these spaces have inspired you to bring out your charm in your space. The season of entertaining is right around the corner, but there is still plenty of time to jazz up your Dining Room to make it the talk of the season! There are many things you can incorporate into this space to make it unique, but the overall harmony between accents is what really makes a statement and makes it beautiful as a whole. I have come up with just a few ideas myself that will send you in the right direction for the design and decoration of your Dining Room!   Lighting is a crucial feature to a Dining Room because it is often a focal point piece that stands out to a guest. If it is too large, it can be overbearing, but if it too small, people will not be able to see their food! In this home, the Darien Country Estate in Darien, CT, you can see the chandelier is not over-the-top, but instead a stunning accent to the overall scheme of the room. It adds just the right amount of “bling” and elegance to this space. The sconces are a nice compliment of light as well to set the mood for a dinnertime meal. I hope this has motivated you to get into the entertaining spirit! There are so many things you can do to spice up your Dining Room for the upcoming parties and family gatherings, and these are just some of the ideas that can get you started. Your Not-So-Traditional Wood Flooring!

Wood plank flooring is your traditional go-to flooring for a home because it is easy to maintain and clean while looking beautiful all at once. There are a plethora of woods and stains that can be used for flooring that can help complete the interior design and decoration of a space. Though wood plank floors are a league of their own, I have found some unique wood floors that will blow you away! Here is a parquet flooring that I incorporated into my design at the Carlyle in New York, New York. The main goal of the feature floor is to draw guests out of the entryway and down the hall towards the Living/seating area. It is almost as if it acts a runway to make your guests feel special as they walk into your home. It also reflects nicely with the cove lighting above! I hope these floors have opened your eyes to the possibilities in wood flooring! There are so many options out there, and it is just a matter of finding the one that is perfect for you and your space.
